Divorce Coaching - A useful tool to help you survive your divorce.


What is Divorce Coaching?
- Divorce Coaching is an important tool in assisting individuals cope with the stresses of divorce. Divorce Coaching helps people become emotionally ready to make informed decisions about their lives and those of their children. It helps people deal with the turmoil that often comes with a divorce, particularly those involving custody battles and parental alienation syndrome (PAS). It also is useful in helping people cope with having to make major changes as the result of a divorce (i.e., lifestyle, financial, family, and social orientations). Divorce coaching helps people become grounded by normalizing the strain of divorce and providing useful feedback during difficult times. It also gives people a safe place to vent their frustrations, anger, and sadness with a professional divorce coach skilled to manage a wide variety of issues that arise during the divorce process.

What does a Divorce Coach do? - Divorce coaches provide invaluable assistance to clients and their lawyers in their combined goal of reaching timely and reasonable settlements. In the long run, clients find using a divorce coach to be a very cost effective service overall. This is because divorce coaches are better trained than lawyers to address the emotional side of divorce. By assisting the client to overcome some of the emotional hurdles encountered during divorce negotiations, clients are able to move through the process with fewer disputes, thereby avoiding (unnecessary) escalating legal fees. A divorce coach does not provide legal advice. You must go to an attorney for that. However, a divorce coach can address many other issues that these other professionals are not trained to do, such as:
  • Supporting your child during a time of change and adaptation
  • Learning how to reconstruct emotional boundaries when interacting with your ex
  • Coping and solving difficult litigation tactics
  • Coping with your own frustration, anger, and sadness
  • Finding a balance between the divorce process and getting on with your life
  • Coping with the fallout of parental alienation syndrome
  • Recovering from your ex's affair
  • Preparing for a custody evaluation
  • Achieving closure in your old relationship

Divorce Mediation - There is no way to end a marriage, but mediation is the better way.

What is Divorce Mediation? - Divorce Mediation is a process in which a specially trained mediator will help you and your partner mutually identify and resolve all issues related to your separation and divorce, including:

  • Division of marital property and debt
  • Child support and spousal support
  • Custody, parenting time, and decision-making for your children

Until recently, most matters concerning separation or divorce were handled by separate attorneys for each spouse, in preparation for litigation. But now, with the assistance of your mediator, you and your spouse will become decision-making partners, rather than opposing parties in the court room.

After all issues have been resolved, your New York Divorce Mediator will draft you decisions into a Separation Agreement. Once properly signed, this document will become a legally binding contract which will be filed in court as a basis for an uncontested divorce.

Does it work? - The short answer to the question is clear: YES!

Overall Client Satisfaction
Couples who mediate the issues of their divorce are significantly more likely to be satisfied with the outcome, as compared to couples who have endured an adversarial divorce. Overall satisfaction has been reported as higher in the following areas:

  • Creativity of the professional

Cost in Time and Money

Mediating couples tend to resolve the issues in their divorce in substantially less time than that taken by their counterparts in litigation. They also tend to spend significantly less money. In one study, couples in the adversarial sample reported spending more than twice as much for their divorces than those in the mediation sample.

Benefits of Mediation

  • Saves time and money - If successful, mediation means sidestepping the formal process of divorce court, which can take a year or more and substantially deplete a family's hard earned assets.
  • Is fair to all concerned - Because of their objectivity as a neutral professional, a mediator may be able to see solutions the parties can't, because they are not emotionally invested in the outcome of the process.
  • Is a confidential process - There are no court reporters taking down every word said. Due to the ethical obligations of a professional divorce mediator, you don't need to be concerned about airing your "dirty laundry" in a public court proceeding.
  • Is least harmful to the divorcing couple - An often unacknowledged factor; the highly stressful, emotionally charged litigation route will take its toll, not only financially, but emotionally and physically as well. It may also affect the involved party's performance at work and overall ability to support their family or themselves. The court system is a busy one. These matters can often take more than a year to resolve within that system. A year is a very long time to suffer under those conditions.
  • Is least harmful to the children - Couples who opt for mediation are less likely to be as acrimonious towards one another than those in litigation, demonstrating to the children that even the most difficult situations can be handled maturely and responsibly. Most parents do NOT want to put the decisions which will affect their child's health, well-being, and financial future in the hands a complete stranger (judge/law guardian). Mediation facilitates the parents making these very important decisions together.

Geriatric/Care Management providers create a unique and customized life plan for your loved one, facilitating a peace of mind and confidence in the quality of care and management of your loved one's special care needs. This frees you to be able to comfortably manage your own affairs with the knowledge that your parent/loved one is being cared for appropriately.
 
Educational Workshops
Educational Workshops teach participants the life skills and practices that further facilitate and promote overall well-being. They can learn about practical decision making, develop skills that increase independence, learn to cope better with life's stressors, and attend other workshops relevant to their needs.

Support Groups
Support Groups facilitate coping with stress associated with various caregiver roles, health and mental health issues, and life stressors. By developing the quality of connection with others experiencing similar situations, participants learn to manage their stressors through the development of meaningful connections with others. 

Harness Your Brilliance
This group targets development of strategies for participants to become skilled in identifying obstacles keeping them from achieving success at home, school, work or in their interpersonal relationships. Through a series of interactive exercises and home assignments, participants grow insight, receive needed support and encouragement to guide them toward a clearer pathway to stability in their life and relationships.

Stress Reduction Group
Participants engage in an introduction and exploration of at least one new stress management practice each group. Topics are chosen to meet the needs of the group and exercises are designed to develop support network, improve self awareness, and promote self-care.

Anxiety/Depression Group
Participants engage in educational discussion to facilitate understanding of symptoms, triggers and reactions so that they can improve coping strategies, explore treatment options, and share experiences strength and hope with one another.

Cancer Survivors Support Group
Group members will have opportunity to experience the support of a community of remarkably strong survivors. Groups will be designed to meet the needs of participants and will include both in session exercises and materials to support group discussions at home.

Divorce Support Group
This group is designed to meet the unique need for education and support one needs while dissolving a marriage. Participant will have the opportunity to ask a train professional questions about the process of divorce, what to expect, and how to cope with the intense emotions inevitable in this process.

Reiki Circle
This group is an ongoing open circle of newcomers to Reiki and seasoned practitioners. Participants come together to share in the healing experience of Reiki in a group atmosphere. Each group is unique in the various forms of meditation and relaxation techniques taught. Integration of Reiki Principals focus the discussion on ways to incorporate the Reiki practice into a way of life. Reiki practice for the body, mind and spirit to promote stress management and relaxation.

EMDR Trauma Treatment
EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR) trauma treatment is a specialized intervention utilizing a technique that facilitates the reprocessing of beliefs that have adversely affected the participant's life and created obstacles to mental and emotional well-being. Through the careful implementation of the EMDR technique, the EMDR practitioner facilitates the reprocessing of beliefs by assisting the participant in lessening the impact which trauma has had on one's life and strengthening and developing new and/or existing coping skills. EMDR technique was originally developed by psychologist, Francine Shapiro. She discovered that while individuals process life's situations, they utilize eye movements similar to those in the REM sleep stage to consciously review the situational experiences and categorize, both consciously and unconsciously, the experiences they are recalling. This almost always is attached to a core belief and stored in the memory network of the brain categorized by that core belief. EMDR facilitates the reprocessing of negative core beliefs that block the individual’s wellness and facilitates the reprocessing of these beliefs into more constructive and positive core concepts.

Intervention for Addictions
Skilled mental health practitioners and providers strategically work with both the individuals experiencing addiction and their groups/families, to facilitate and improve their understanding of addiction and its impact on the individual’s life and the lives of the family members affected. Strategic life plans and linkage and referral to appropriate care services are part of the intervention process and implemented to promote sobriety and improve the coping of all involved.

Reiki

History - Reiki is a healing modality rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan in the early 1900s. While on a retreat, sitting in meditation by a waterfall, Dr. Usui discovered his own innate ability to heal. He discovered that there is a Universal Life force energy available to all by shifting consciousness and creating a dual focus of awareness. It was while practicing this in a meditative state that Dr. Usui further discovered that this practice can be channeled and focused to promote healing, balance, and overall well-being. Dr. Usui used this practice widely in Japan and attuned a select few practitioners. The practice of Reiki has grown and now there are over one million practitioners. Reiki is taught in training institutes, hospitals, and workshops by certified practitioners all over the world.

What is Reiki? - Translated, Rei means Universal Life Force and Ki means energy. Reiki is not affiliated with any religious tradition. Reiki can be seen as a tool to spiritual/religious practices. Reiki is the art of consciously connecting with the Universal Life Force Energy within all. Reiki practitioners are representative of a wide range of belief communities. Reiki is away for people of all beliefs and backgrounds to join their creative abilities toward a common goal; healing.

What does Reiki do? - Reiki is used to promote stress reduction and relaxation and to facilitate your body's own natural healing capabilities. Reiki is not intended to replace Western medicine; rather it is used in conjunction with Western medicine. Reiki has been found to be beneficial in enhancing treatment outcomes, reducing pain and anxiety, promoting relaxation and stress reduction, and improving overall functioning and well-being.

Who is a Reiki practitioner? - A Reiki practitioner has taken a specialized training by a trained Reiki Master and has been attuned to Reiki practice. A Reiki practitioner facilitates a Reiki session or Reiki circle.
